My Story, Soul Growth

A few years ago I learned a major lesson for myself: don’t give unsolicited advice and don’t accept unsolicited advice.

At the time, I was going through a break-up and although friends were well-meaning, they were giving me advice that made me feel worse.

I later read several modern conscious relationship books and discovered that the advice my friends had been offering was outdated thinking that doesn’t serve anyone now.

What hurt most is that I wanted my friends to listen to me but they were too busy giving advice that I never asked for. Sadly, I stopped talking to them about what was going on in my life.

I vowed to not offer unsolicited advice and to practice listening to people instead. Now, if I feel I have helpful advice, I will ask for permission to share it, and I won’t get offended if the answer is no.

Once I “turned off” the external noise, I was able to hear my inner guidance – a much more gentle, quiet voice. This voice was speaking of unconditional love and to me, was a voice of reason far more than anything else I’d heard.

The bottom line is that being present to others is far more important than trying to be helpful. And being present to your self is absolutely crucial: let your heart be your compass guiding you on the path of life.

Here are my top five life-changing books that I recommend for people on a spiritual path.

  1. A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson

This is a must-read! Based on the Course of Miracles, Marianne’s book taught me to always choose love over fear. My everyday conversations, choices and reactions have changed accordingly, and thus my experience of life.

  1. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

I have a fond memory of this book – it was one of the first spiritual books I ever read and aligned with my understanding of yogic philosophy. If we can do one beneficial thing in life, it would be to practice being in the moment.

  1. Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss

An inner knowing of my soul’s long existence and past lives led me to explore reincarnation and this book by psychiatrist Brian Weiss helped me to understand the game of life. As a result, my view of life has radically changed.

  1. Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks

Many of the books I’ve listed have changed the fundamental way I operate, and this is one of them. The teachings of Abraham, a spirit team channelled by Esther, are all about changing your vibrations to manifest your best life, by guiding your thoughts. It is a practice and the exercises will support you.

  1. Assertiveness For Earth Angels by Doreen Virtue

If you are a highly sensitive person, an intuitive, an empath or someone who has trouble dealing with harsh energy, then please read this book! Many of us need to learn about boundaries, speaking up and protecting ourselves.

Dreams are a significant way my guides give me messages, because when I’m asleep, my mind is relaxed and information can be received more easily.

I have always had a very rich dream state, and because of that, I love to sleep. I see my dreams vividly, so much so they are very much like real life. Other times my soul is off having an adventure: I can remember having flying dreams when I was a kid, I would run, stretch out my arms and take off, and it felt soooo good. Later in my teens I had astral travel dreams, where I would see other places in the world, but that’s another topic I’ll cover later.

Most of the memorable dreams I’ve had as an adult are for the purpose of learning from life experiences and handling the emotions that come up. For example, in my twenties and thirties I had a recurring dream about baggage – the heavy feelings and memories from the past that I was being asked to let go. Either I was packing up a house and didn’t have enough time to finish, or I was on a train trying to pick up all my luggage to get off. Sometimes I just left my things and walked away. The night I dreamt I had no baggage was a true relief.

Like this, my higher self and my guides show me what I need to take care of in my emotional life. Plus often, through a symbolic story I’m given an idea of what will happen in the future – this helps to alleviate worry and keep me on track. I also get clear instructions, like the dream that led me to enrol in a mindfulness meditation course.

If I’m going through something and not sure what to make of it, I ask my guides to give me a dream that explains the situation from a higher perspective and provides guidance. This really works!

So my question to you is, what kind of dreams do you have? Can you distinguish between the run-of-the-mill processing dreams and the etheric spirit-guided dreams? Do you have a recurring dream that you need to take notice of?

My method for getting the most out of dreams is to write them down first thing in the morning. As I write, I remember more details – the more the better. Then I ask, what is the meaning of this dream? Often I get a clear answer. If you recall symbols (like a playful puppy or a house on fire, for example), use a dream dictionary – I love the very chunky hardback, The Element Encyclopedia of 20,000 Dreams.

May your dream state be rich and vivid and full of important messages from your guides.

When I did Reiki levels one and two back in the early 2000’s, my Reiki master made the comment that as we grow spiritually, the words that we speak change. He had noticed people said less, and what they did say was more meaningful than before. I totally agree and had this experience myself. So I was surprised there was much more to learn when I discovered nonviolent communication.

Marshall B. Rosenberg pioneered this concept in the 1960s and wrote the book Nonviolent Communication: A Language Of Life, which explains many ways in which to express our feelings, needs and perceptions without reactionary behaviour.

Basically, he teaches how to express yourself with honesty and clarity so that others clearly understand you. And he also shares how to listen to others with empathy and a true desire to understand.

This practice is useful among intimate partnerships, friendships, families and work colleagues. It helps to prevent miscommunication and is handy if you are talking to a person who is particularly defensive. If we all communicated from our heart like this it would be a very different world.

I recommend starting with Rosenberg’s YouTube videos to learn the basics and finding his book, and those by others, on nonviolent communication.

My Story, Soul Growth

One rainy Sunday at the start of July I was sitting on my couch and thought to myself, how shall I promote my work? I went to Google and started typing. I looked at the computer screen and saw that I had automatically typed ‘how to publish your story’. I am a Divine channel and one way I do this is by writing, so I wasn’t that surprised my typing wasn’t what I intended. And the message my spirit team was giving me was not a new one – they’ve been telling me for years I need to write my story – however I was getting the feeling that NOW is the time to do this.

They were asking me to share stories about my spiritual path as teachings of shared experiences. There are many people waking up to spirituality right now and would be helped by this. So over the next few days I began thinking about how I would format my writings. Then one morning I was in a queue at the supermarket and the woman in front of me had a tattoo on her shoulders: “Maybe it’s not about the happy ending. Maybe it’s about the story.” Another prompt! That afternoon I sat down at the computer and started writing.

I began by typing my journal entries from the past year. I thought this would be a good way to collate my stories on the computer. What happened, though, is that I relived experiences that brought up heavy emotions. I closed my laptop and paid attention to these feelings. A week passed by and I was inspired to write a blog post about my throat chakra healing that occurred in the most peculiar way (see blog). I shared this blog on my social media and posted it in the Soulogy Facebook group, thinking someone there might be interested.

Next day my guides were asking me to write about my feelings. I wrote the blog about my emotions rising up from typing my journal (see blog) and again shared it in the Soulogy group. On the third day I got an email from Soulogy asking me to be a guest on Soulspeaks 5D, a show that is broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube. I was in shock! I had never expected or thought that would happen – I was just following the guidance from my spirit team.

I was feeling nervous about this opportunity and checked in with my guides. They were pushing me forward, telling me to be my authentic self, to share myself as the spiritual teacher that I am. I decided I would do the show and be as authentic as possible.

A couple of weeks later when the Soulspeaks 5D show went live, I talked about my spiritual path (watch here). The more I talked, the more my throat chakra opened. I watched the replay and could see myself touching my throat often during the hour. One viewer commented she could see my throat chakra opening.

I’ll be honest, I was very nervous and it took me quite some time to calm down afterwards. I had stepped out of my comfort zone, which was uncomfortable, but that is where the growth can be found. It helps that the response from viewers was affirming – my story resonated and they were fully supportive and thankful for my appearance on the show.

Now I look back and thank my guides for pushing me forward. And how funny is it that the first blog post I shared to the Soulogy group was about my throat chakra healing? I guess it was all part of the Divine plan.

Another bonus is that just before the show my spirit team revealed to me their new name: star team. At first I realised the galactic reference, but it was only later that I got the full joke – they are now stars because we’ve been on YouTube together!

My Story, Soul Growth

I walk into a crystal shop and start browsing. An assistant comes over and asks if I need any help. I quiz him about crystal grids and he explains the basics. Then he says: “I’m feeling you are a channel.” “Yes I am,” I tell him. “I offer guidance from spirit in sessions with clients.”

A month later I travel a bit further afield to visit another crystal shop. Again, the man behind the desk comes over to offer assistance. He tells me I have lovely energy. “You are a channel,” he says. “Yes, I work with angels,” I say. He asks if he can offer some words and I accept. “Put yourself first. Go with the flow of life. Feel not think. It’s all about remembering,” he shares.

His words stick with me on the drive home. Guidance from spirit, reminders that I take note of. I have applied each to reach this current point of evolution in my lightworker’s path, where I now feel in alignment with my purpose, my soul essence.

You see, back in 2006 when I finished my yoga teaching diploma, I was convinced I was going to teach yoga forever. It was a big surprise more than 10 years later that I began to lose interest. How could this happen? It did not make sense logically, as I had a class full of students and a passion for helping others heal, but I had to go with my feelings.

I felt a calling to something else but I didn’t know yet what it was. That space of not knowing was uncomfortable. And rather than just keep doing what I knew, I started to pull back and give myself space to breath. This was all about putting myself first, or rather, putting my higher self first. I had to go with the flow.

One day in meditation, I asked my guides if I should cancel the upcoming term of yoga classes I had planned. I got a clear message that this was a lesson for me in saying no – and to honour my need for rest – that I do not need to save everybody, and looking after me is important. I did not feel guilty about cancelling the class, in fact, I felt a rush of energy to do something else.

My interest in offering intuitive guidance to others had been rekindled and I was excited to do this work now. I had explored my intuitive gifts in development circles and courses nearly a decade earlier, and now while giving energy healings to clients my spirit team was louder than ever. I gave this aspect of myself, my ability as a Divine channel, more attention and space to grow.

Now I look back and realise that if I had kept myself distracted with other things I may have prolonged the dawdling, however productive it was, instead of moving forward on the path that truly reflects my soul essence. This game on earth is all about remembering: we are each in the process of remembering our core BEing.

My Story, Soul Growth

Since June I have been waking up each morning remembering dreams that are simply yuck. Revisiting the traumas of past relationships – it’s much like the story of Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol.

I had several short-term relationships in my twenties and then a couple of longer ones in my thirties to now, so there’s a big cast of exes and they show up randomly. Sometimes the face of one matches the story of another – it’s not so much about them but the repeating relationship dynamics.

I know what is happening – my guides are schooling me at night – making sure I shine a light on the dark corners of my psyche. Each dream has a strong message about what needs to be let go of. I am being asked to forgive and learn from the past, and not fear that similar things will happen again.

Next my guides repeatedly asked me to write my story and share it for others to learn. As a journalist and editor, I knew where to start: I began typing up my journal. On day three, the emotions came up thick and fast.

There was anger, heartbreak, sadness and disappointment – altogether it was a heavy burden that needed to be released. I went for a walk to get some fresh air and received a beautiful song message, Elton John’s “I guess that’s why they call it the blues”. One part of the lyrics stood out:

Don’t wish it away

Don’t look at it like it’s forever

Between you and me I could honestly say

That things can only get better

And while I’m away

Dust out the demons inside

And it won’t be long before you and me run

To the place in our hearts where we hide

Now is the time to “dust out the demons inside” and re-reading my journal has really helped let those demons out. My spirit team is telling me I am going through a phase of renewal – I’m at the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. It is only fair that I begin this new chapter with a lighter heart.

What’s one thing you can carry with you anywhere that can help you out during times of distress, grief and worry? A well-heeled meditation practice.

Meditation is the act of focusing on something to allow the mind to become more still (notice I didn’t say empty!). One simple way to do this is by placing your awareness on the movement of your breath into and out of your body. The challenge is to keep your focus and not get lost in your thoughts.

If you are human like me, you’ll probably notice you have many thoughts – and some of them are not nice. Don’t be hard on yourself. Meditation is going to help you, and me, be calmer in the body and in the mind.

The key to getting the benefits of meditation is a regular practice, so that when you really need it, when the shit hits the fan, you’ll be able to use it. Think of it like a muscle that gets a workout everyday and gets stronger each time. After some time you’ll go deeper into a meditative state much faster than before.

Start out with shorter sittings then increase the time as it gets easier for you. The best posture is sitting upright, either in a chair or propped on a meditation stool or cushion. Did you know that yoga poses were practiced in India to enable people to sit in meditation longer without pain? I recommend gentle yoga, if you’re interested.

If one of your goals is to have greater access to your intuitive abilities, then meditation is the go-to solution. A disciplined practice will enable you to fine-tune your awareness. It’s also a way to raise your vibration to communicate with spirit in higher frequencies.

Lastly, you don’t need a recorded meditation to follow along. Many “meditations” are available now but they’re actually visualisations – these are great, but think of them as dessert, not dinner. May your meditation practice be a peaceful retreat from the world around you.

Intuitive Studies, Soul Growth

A few months ago I experienced something palpably 5D that left me in amazement. I’ve had plenty of psychic metaphysical experiences in my lifetime but this was different – my body was taken over by my Higher Self.

I was on a writer’s retreat up north at a place where many of the earth’s energetic leylines converge. I was meditating every day, using crystals and doing guided visualisations. One afternoon I did a meditation by Steve Nobel called “Merging with Your 6D Super-Conscious Self”. I set the intention for my Higher Self to guide me and I would surrender control.

The next morning I got in my car and had a plan that would include meditating in the nearby rainforest, then doing laundry at the small town five minutes away. But when I drove out of the retreat’s driveway, I turned right – away from the rainforest – went further down the road and turned left instead of right for the laundromat. At this point I realised my body was taking the lead – or something was taking over my body.

Like Google Maps will recalculate your journey when you take a wrong turn, my mind was now trying to take back control and make an alternative plan – let’s go to the beach! However my hands steered the car all the way to a bigger town 15 minutes away. I parked the car and thought I would sit there and figure out the way to the beach.

Instead, I got out of the car, walked down the street and went into a metaphysical shop. I had a good look around and then left. Standing outside another crystal shop, I heard in my head ‘go to the charity shop’ – I looked across the road at the shop and thought ‘no, I don’t want to buy anything’.

I sat on a bench and looked at my phone. A moment later, my head automatically turned to the left and I could see outside the charity shop was someone I needed to have an important conversation with. I crossed the road and spoke with them.

My Higher Self took me to exactly where I needed to be. I was probably only 50% surrendered to the guidance, but I learned an important lesson: if we follow the guidance, even when the mind doesn’t understand why, miracles can come our way.

I have no doubt that some of us, or rather a lot of us, have important missions on this earth and our spirit teams are with us to bring them into fruition. Right now it feels like the guides are showing up even stronger to get their humans onto task. So ask your guides to show you where you need to be. Ask them for the next action you could take to help you fulfill your destined path.
